John Williams is an equestrian from the United States of America, who competed for the USA on the
US Eventing team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, winning the bronze medal.

John and Outback Red competed in the 1991 Pan American Games, and was the winner of the
National DeBroke Championships in 1994. In 2002, riding Carrick, John finished in 2nd place at
CCI**** Lexington with less than a half point separating him from the winner. John was a member of
the Gold Medal team and finished 4th in the individual competition at the 2002 World Equestrian
Games, Jerez, Spain. In 2003, John earned a spot to compete for the USA at CCI**** Burghley,
finishing 4th with Carrick.

John has trained with many great eventers, including Jack Le Goff, James C. Wofford, and David and
Karen O'Connor. John is also a recognized Eventing course designer, and designed the 2005 American
Eventing Championship courses (novice to advanced).

  • Became a member of the U.S. National team member at the age of 23.
  • Has been repeatedly named among the top ten in the USEA Rider of the Year rankings.

  • Along with being a great eventer John is also a "R" Eventing course designer. Williams is
    building a reputation as a designer of cross-country courses for eventing testing. He has created
    courses in Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New York and New Jersey, including Jersey
    Fresh, Pine Top (Georgia), Southern Pines and the 2005 American Eventing Championships to
    name a few.
  • The gelding, Carrick, was purchased for $12,000 in 1996. He easily would fetch more than six
    figures were he for sale today
  • Williams and his wife, Ellen, who is a groomer, are the sole caretakers of all of their horses
  • Grew up in Mendon and competed in cross country skiing and track and field at Honeoye Falls-
    Lima
  • The New York native graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology for American
    Craftsmen, where he studied woodworking and furniture design at the School for American
    Crafts.
